Playing at Your Highest Level
Custom Hand-Made Violins & Cellos
It’s tempting to think that if you practice endlessly on a mediocre instrument that you will become a great player, but when your instrument doesn’t resonate with your core being all the practice in the world will not help you achieve your goals.
We live in a very competitive musical world where having the best sounding instrument is more important than ever.
Does your violin inspire you to make music?
Save Time
It is exceedingly rare that when shopping for a violin that you can find the perfect violin on the first visit to your local shop or even multiple trips to different cities. Looking for that needle in the haystack can be exhausting.
Save Money
It is assumed that one has to spend north of $100,000 to find a great playing and sounding violin. This is simply not true, while these instruments will forever captivate the violin players, makers, and enthusiasts it is my opinion that they are valued and priced based on many factors and that tone that they produce is only one small factor of their often hefty price tag.
Sound Better
I believe that every musician is unique, musically, physiologically and psychologically they are different from each other. Their sound and instrument should also hold such distinctions. My unique custom approach to achieving your ideal tone, look and feel of your violin will help you achieve your musical goals faster and for less money the traditional way of ‘finding’ your ideal instrument.
Your violin isn't everything.
But it's pretty darn close.
Having the confidence that your instrument has the capability to sound the way that you want it to can be stressful, I get it. The success of your musical career is on the line, and it’s easy to wonder if you’ll pull off that performance or nail that audition.
My name is Dereck Coons, and for much of my luthier career, making great sounding violins felt like a big gamble. So much so that I built my first instruments without even knowing who I was building for, hoping that someone would love them and buy them.
Everything changed for me in 2013 when I opened my own Violin Shop and began to meet many world class musicians. My Understanding of exactly what a good violinist and cellist wanted and needed became much clearer. I began building instruments that not only made me feel more confident but enabled the musician to express themselves to a much higher degree of artistry. As my success began to increase so did that of the musicians that I have had the pleasure of working with and help find their ideal sound and perfect instrument.
